A Special Evening With Kate (part 4)

A few final images from my shoot with the lovely Kate Anne Cooper at Fotofilia this week. After the various other sets, where better to end up than the cafe? Our cafe. Or rather the excellent Urban Coffee Company cafe which is also situated within the BOM (Birmingham Open Media) building. Sadly, the staff had long since gone home but at least we were able to use this brilliant location for a few final shots before we were finally beaten by the clock.

A Special Evening With Kate (part 3)

More images from my shoot with the lovely Kate Anne Cooper at Fotofilia this week. So far we’ve had beauty headshots, grungey latex and lorry wheels. Now we’re getting back to basics – pure, clean, high-key with Kate in a corset…

A Special Evening With Kate (part 2)

More images from my shoot with the lovely Kate Anne Cooper at Fotofilia this week. This little batch feature our much-used (by me anyway) aluminium-effect wall and a lorry wheel that Chrissy (of DollHouse fame, who also uses my Fotofilia studio and has just about the world’s largest collection of props) happens to have left lying around.

A Special Evening With Kate

Amazing what you can achieve in just a couple of hours. Derby-based model Kate Anne Cooper modelled for the Fotofilia “Special Studio Evening” this week and during the two and a half hours she was there, and despite having to “share” Kate with my little group, we were still able to get through several sets, outfits and locations.

First up are these headshots, taken with my Nikon DSLR and 50mm f1.4 (set at about f2.2) and using only the continuous modelling lights from two Bowens flash heads

What’s Special?

A few months ago, I announced a Studio Evening event at Fotofilia which was a little bit different to the ones we’ve been running for the best part of a decade. For this one, I booked only one model instead of the usual two, but the model I chose was the excellent Salleh Sparrow, a model with an incredible portfolio.

I enjoyed this so much that I scheduled another – this time with a model who certainly needs no introduction, Ivory Flame.

And then another, with Stephanie Dubois

And we’re doing it again – on Tuesday 19th May 7:30-10pm. As usual, I don’t reveal who the model will be until the event. To book your place, get in touch – soon!

Studio in The Street: Kat

Now here’s something we haven’t done in a while – take our two Bowens 400 heads and battery pack out onto the streets of Birmingham Jewellery Quarter on a Summer’s evening. The “Studio in the street” workshop started off in the relatively shaded narrow alleys of the area (it was still quite sunny, even after 7:30pm)…

Once the light levels began to drop, we headed into wider streets, doorways and under bridges…

Our model for the evening was Kat (Kathryn Victoria), a favourite at Fotofilia for several years now. Kit-wise, the battery pack doesn’t get used very often but it never fails to surprise me how well the charge lasts: with five photographers shooting for 2 and a half hours, often with two flashes, the battery was depleted by only 25% by the end of the event. And to think I bought a second battery – it’s never been out of the box.

The Upside of Downton (part 3)

Finishing up my little series of posts about Fotofilia’s “Downton”-themed location shoot with a few images of both models – Emilie Walt and Joel Hicks – together. Emilie and Joel are great models individually but, as they’ve proved many times in the past, they have a real (and rare) rapport when working together. Anyway, here are those images…

In case you’re interested, all of these shots were taken using a 50mm f1.4 lens on my Nikon DSLR. Lighting is mainly ambient with the occasional burst of Bowens flash and judicious use of a reflector.

Finally, a HUGE thank you to Emilie (who, as previously mentioned, made two costumes for the shoot) and Joel, the lovely ladies at Haden Hill House for all of their help and coffee.
